Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks is an ETITO initiative that nurtures and encourages students interested in a hi-tech future. The key elements of the Bright Sparks programme are an online club with around 1900 student members and an annual national competition.

The Bright Sparks Club

The club is accessed via the website [www.brightsparks.org.nz] and provides a forum for students to share ideas, ask questions and receive guidance with projects they may be working on. A number of industry mentors moderate the forum and assist those students whose queries have not been answered by other club members. It's a great space for students to interact with others who share their interest and passion for things electronic and hi-tech.

The Bright Sparks Competition

This annual, nationwide competition recognises student innovation and excellence in electronics and software. It encourages the students to stretch themselves and show application beyond what the NCET curriculum asks of them.  Starting in 2009, a Bright Sparks Awards website hosts videos of finalists' projects from the competition, and announces the winners.

Bright Sparks has attracted thousands of extremely talented young individuals over the years, many of whom have gone on to win international science and technology competitions and scholarships at prestigious tertiary institutions.
