Teacher’s FAQs
What does ETITO’s Gateway programme cover?
ETITO currently offers assistance with the Gateway programme for those industries within the electrotechnology and telecommunications sectors. This includes:
- Appliance Servicing
- Electrical Engineering [Electrician for Registration]
- Electrical Switchgear Fitting
- Electronic Engineering
- Electronic Security
- Industrial Measurement and Control
- Telecommunications
What equipment does a student need?
Most host companies don’t expect that the Gateway student will come fully equipped with all the tools necessary to do the job. However there are certain items that the Gateway student should have available, particularly if they will be working in an industrial or construction environment. We recommend, solid shoes or boots, clothing that fully covers arms and legs, safety glasses and a hard hat [if the student has access to these]. It is very important to discuss with the host company what their expectations are in regards to what equipment they expect the Gateway student to have.
Is the learning done through Gateway all on the job?
There are some theory unit standards available, however most of these unit standards require some underpinning practical knowledge and are therefore not suitable for a Gateway student to undertake before they are in an apprenticeship.
How much does it cost to get involved with Bright Sparks and NCET?
Nothing!
